Can we start fresh already? The FIRST last Thursday of the month is coming so join us for a night of poetry, spoken word, and song.
Whether you are ready to share what is becoming, or air your best skeletons, come help us welcome a new year and leave 2022 in the dust.

As usual, there will be a sign-up list for the Open Mic at the event, but if you’d like to reserve a spot beforehand, just comment on this post.
Depending on how many people show up, each slot will be 5-7 minutes long. Please factor in any introduction as part of your mic time. You can field comments after your set, should you so choose.
You can read your own work, or someone else’s, as long as you credit the author. And if your subject is potentially offensive or triggering, please respect the audience by giving a warning in advance.

Artist Bios:

Ararat Tanarach
Mali is an amateur writer who once rescued her internal world through poetry. Although the fear of speaking in public with her second language, her first opened mic poetry was performed in a small antique café in Newtown, Sydney, Australia and that was the first time her perspective of seeing this world has been seen by people, from her thought of being the odd one out at all times. Since then writing poems has become one form of therapy that connected her world with people.
Her writing focuses on her observation of existentialism and emotions. She has now become slightly more comfortable with spreading her thoughts and writing in public speaking after practicing it for years.

Justin Frets
A modern troubador and performance artist from New Orleans who writes about his charismatic lifestyles and travels as a musical vagabond. A man of few words but many songs.

February 2022 Magic Theatre Poetry Reading

February! The Tuesday of months, when New Year’s was ages ago, and spring is eons away. February! When the Chiang Mai air is like sand with oxygen. (Although not quite yet, which is great, right?) February! Which means it’s time for another live Magic Theatre Poetry Reading, on Thursday the 24th, at 6:30 PM, at My Secret Café In Town in Chiang Mai’s Old City.
If you’re still in the city, come share your words with us; if you’re not, fly back so you can see this month’s feature, Rosalie Wilmot, newly returned from Seattle, who will have great things to say (and possibly sing).

It’s been a year. And we can’t let this one end without a Real Live Magic Theatre Poetry Reading–Thursday, December 23rd–6:30PM sharp, at My Secret Café In Town in the Old City.
Share what kept you going, or stopped you in your tracks. Tell the world what shut you down, or opened you up. Things you lost. Things you won’t miss. Things you found. Things you held on to.
It’s time to ring out the old and last year’s worries, and ring in the new with next year’s hopes, as we say goodbye to a time when we couldn’t gather together for an event like this. The future’s uncertain, but it’s also suggestible, like a customer looking at a 20-page diner menu, who asks, “So what’s good here?”
Right now? We are.
